Schuylkill County Court Dockets

Schuylkill County court records in Pennsylvania are available through several channels. SchuylkillCourt.us allows you to search for public information about court cases in the county. Additionally, records can be found through official court resources, including the Pennsylvania Unified Judicial System (UJS) web portal, directly at the offices of the Clerk of Courts and Prothonotary, as well as through public terminals in the courthouse in Pottsville.

Schuylkill Court System & Jurisdictions

In Pennsylvania, there are no county District Courts in the classic sense — instead, a Unified Judicial System operates. In Schuylkill County, it functions on several levels.

Court of Common Pleas

This is the primary court of general jurisdiction. It is divided into divisions:

  • Criminal Division — felonies, misdemeanors, appeals from magistrate courts. Records are maintained by the Clerk of Courts.
  • Civil Division — civil lawsuits, arbitration hearings, landlord-tenant disputes, name changes, divorces, guardianships. These cases are stored by the Prothonotary.
  • Family Division — cases concerning child support, protection from abuse orders (PFA), juvenile cases.
  • Orphans' Court Division — probate (inheritance procedure), adoptions, guardianships. Documents are filed through the Register of Wills; filing requirements can be found on the Orphans' Court page.

Magisterial District Courts

Magisterial district courts handle minor cases: traffic violations, small civil claims up to $12,000, preliminary hearings in criminal cases, and issuance of arrest warrants. Several such courts operate in Schuylkill County, each serving a specific area. Docket sheets for magistrate courts are available through the UJS Web Portal.

What to Search and Where

If you're interested in a criminal case — contact the Clerk of Courts. Civil lawsuit or divorce — go to the Prothonotary. Inheritance case or adoption — to the Register of Wills. Traffic violation or small claim — check the docket sheet through the magistrate court portal.

Schuylkill Court Calendar & Upcoming Hearings

The Court of Common Pleas schedule is published on the Courts & Legal page of the official Schuylkill County website. There is a link to the Court Calendar, which lists the dates of hearings for criminal, civil, and other categories of cases.

To find out when a specific hearing is scheduled:

  1. Find the docket sheet for your case through the UJS portal (ujsportal.pacourts.us) — it displays scheduled dates.
  2. Call the relevant office: Clerk of Courts for criminal cases or Prothonotary for civil cases.
  3. Visit the courthouse in person — the schedule is usually posted near the courtrooms.

The schedule may change. Hearings can be postponed or canceled — always verify current information in advance.
